Fiat Scudo/Ulysse: Stellantis enables comeback

Fiat is reviving its two large-capacity models Scudo and Ulysse. However, the two newcomers are very old acquaintances from the Stellantis universe. The Scudo also comes with combustion engines, the Ulysse only with an electric drive.

The major car group Stellantis is rolling out its platform strategy even further and is adding two new members to the large family of small vans under the Fiat label. At Peugeot, the models from the EMP2 kit are called Traveler and Expert, at Citro├źn Jumpy and Spacetourer, at Toyota Proace and Proace Verso and at Opel Zafira Life and Vivaro. And now the Scudo and the Ulysse are added. The Scudo succeeds the Talento.

The range of the two Fiat models is based on the sister series. The Fiat Scudo appears as a commercial vehicle and comes in three lengths as a sheet metal box, chassis or glazed van. The length varies between 4.60 and 5.30 meters. The height is always a parking garage-friendly 1.90 meters. Depending on the wheelbase, the loading volumes are 4.6, 5.3 or 6.1 cubic metres. The payload is up to 1.4 tons. The Ulysse gives the passenger car version and comes with seating configurations from six to nine passengers. The trunk volume is given as 4,200 to 4,900 liters.,

Diesel engines and electric drive

The well-known drive options of the sister models can also be found in the Scudo and Ulysse. Four diesel engines are available on the combustion side. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder is available with 102 or 120 hp and with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. The two-liter diesel is offered with 145 hp and a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, and in a 177-hp version with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Both models will also come with the well-known 100 kW and 260 Nm electric drive, which can be combined with the two battery sizes of 50 and 75 kWh. The range is between 230 and 330 kilometers. The top speed is limited to 130 km/h. With a 100 kW fast charger, the battery can be charged to up to 80 percent of its capacity in 45 minutes.

Fiat Scudo and Ulysse were already on a common platform with PSA models between 1994 and 2012. Now the partners in the Stellantis group have found each other again. The Fiat models are also manufactured in the French WPSA plant in Hordain.

At least the Fiat Scudo can be ordered in the three equipment levels Business, Basis and SX with immediate effect. The electric version starts with the 50 kWh battery at prices from 45,101 euros (incl. VAT). The price list for the Scudo as a van starts at 32,249 euros (incl. VAT). There is no price information yet for the Ulysse, which can be ordered from March 2022 and will then be available in dealerships from May. Like the sister models, the Fiat vans are built at the Stellantis plant in Hordain, France.,

With the comeback of the Scudo and Ulysse models, Fiat is joining the large Stellantis van family on the EMP2 platform. The technology is known, the design is slightly adapted to the Fiat line.
