VW no longer offers the T6 as an electric transporter. Abt converts old diesel buses into e-transporters for around 24,000 euros (net).
Craftsmen who are sticking to their proven VW T6.1 transporter but also want to position themselves for the future should be happy about the latest offer from Abt from the Allgäu. With its know-how from various projects relating to alternative drives, Abt has launched a conversion of existing vehicles to battery-electric drives.
Almost every diesel Bulli is suitable
The price for the conversion kit is 19,900 euros net, installation and registration cost from 3,950 euros net. The configuration of the base vehicle is decisive here. In contrast to the Abt e-Transporter 6.1, which is offered as a complete vehicle, almost all body variants can be equipped with the conversion kit - regardless of whether it is a long or short wheelbase, with or without a high roof, platform models or chassis with special bodies. The only requirement is that the base vehicle must be a diesel with a DSG gearbox.
The technical key data of the retrofit correspond to those of the Abt e-Transporter 6.1. Its range is between 105 and 138 km (according to WLTP) - depending on the body and weight, this can vary slightly when converting. This also applies to consumption, which was between 27.0 and 35.8 kWh/100 km for the complete vehicle, depending on the version. Thanks to the relatively compact battery with a capacity of 37.3 kWh (gross), vehicle usability remains unaffected.
The peak power of the drive is 83 kW and the maximum torque is 200 Nm. The top speed is throttled to either 90 or 120 km/h. The complete charging time with a 7.2 kW wall box is around 5.5 hours, with a rapid charging station (CCS) with 50 kW this is possible to 80 percent in around 45 minutes. Servicing can be done at Abt e-Line or at one of 300 Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles service partners in Germany. Abt puts the conversion time at just a few days.
Conclusion
With its electrical conversion for VW T6 diesel models, Abt offers unrestricted access to environmental zones or simply an ecologically clearer conscience. The electrical conversion is also attractive when there is engine damage. Even expensive special conversions can be set up in a future-proof way.
