Rétromobile 2019 Paris: arrival, opening times, exhibitors

Rétromobile 2019 Paris
Subscriptions & booklets

D this Every year, the Rétromobile takes place in three halls: Halls 1, 2 and 3 on the Porte de Versailles exhibition center are available for dealers, manufacturers and clubs. The organizer expects around 650 exhibitors and 600 cars. Over 100 clubs have their own stands - including those for exotic brands such as Hotchkiss. The market offers contrasts: Noble dealers with stands at manufacturer level are represented as well as private sellers who offer affordable classics. Estimated broadly, the price range of the cars on offer at the fair ranges from 5,000 to 5 million euros - with upward outliers being more likely than downward ones. The audience ranges from mechanics in denim shirts to millionaires with handkerchiefs that match their ties.

Cars for millionaires and normal wage earners

Several auctions will take place during the trade fair: RM Sotheby's is auctioning parts of a 140 Cars extensive youngtimer collection and Arcturial has a classic home game with particularly noble classics. Last year, the French auction house auctioned cars with a total value of 39 million US dollars during the Rétromobile. The current auction items are on display in Hall 2.2. If you don't want to spend millions, you will probably find an object in Hall 3: There are cars for sale for a maximum of 25,000 euros. The classics that manufacturers are showing from their reborn and continuation programs are somewhat more expensive: Land Rover and Aston Martin are relaunching original Range Rover and DB4, Lamborghini is restoring the Miuras factory and Fiat is restoring the Pininfarina Spider Europe at the factory.

Citroën celebrates 100 years

W. Groeger-Meier
Citroen turns 100 and shows the heroes of the brand for the anniversary.

One enters the exhibition halls at the Porte de Versailles in the middle of theFrench capital, strolling along the traditionally laid out red carpet and approaching the large Citroën exhibition stand, it can get a little warm to the heart. After all, Citroën created some of the most innovative, revolutionary and most beautiful vehicles in automotive history. And the French show that too, and with some pride. Quite rightly, of course, because with 11 CV, 2CV, DS, HY, CX, SM and such bizarre relatives like Méhari, some icons come to mind when we ponder the history of Citroën. But in Paris, in addition to these legendary vehicles, you can also see those that are somewhat overshadowed by us - too rare, too unknown, too long ago.

Citroën presents a triad of racing vehicles, the heroes of the brand and an insight into the enthusiasm for innovation based on some, in some cases spectacular, concept cars and studies.

40 years of turbo, 60 years of mini

Renault has set up its stand right next to it and is focusing everything on turbo . The engines have been inflated by a supercharger for 40 years. In addition to the sporty bang-out bags like the R5 Turbo and the R5 Alpine Turbo, the rare models, which have almost died out, also surprise. For example an R18 Turbo, the Fuego Turbo or R25 Turbo. A mini special show was set up in the corridor connecting the two main halls, showing the breadth of the little Brit. Wolseley Hornet, Mini Moke, Austin Mini, Pickup and Woody - you can see them all. A longitudinal sectional model provides deep insights. A prototype chassis from Dechaux from 1947 also raises the legitimate question of whether mini-mastermind Sir Alec Issigonis was perhaps inspired when developing his mini-car.

Hüni provides a trade fair highlight

K. Klauder
Seven Stratos on a stand? Hüni from Switzerland has set up a spectacular stand.

Lukas Hüni, the precious dealer from Zurich, has been providing special shows at Retromobile for years for a stir. Also this year he spares no expense and effort and celebrates the Lancia brand with more than 20 vehicles. Seven Stratos alone, two of them in rally regalia, the restin bright 70s colors make the heart beat faster. Hüni also brought a Delta HF Integrale and a Rally 037 - both in Martini dress. Plus beauties like Flaminia Coupé, Berlina and Cabriolet as well as Appia. What makes the retro mobiles in Paris so extraordinaire, in addition to such exhibitions for the mass taste, are, above all, the surprising presentations of ancient French mobile cultural assets. Be it the monster truck from Berliet, which is the size of a six-family house, be it the special show 100 Years of Gnome et Rhone or the Bédèlia exhibition, here in the halls of the Portes des Versailles you always learn something new - and love it.
