In November, numerous young and oldtimers, some in very good condition, came under the virtual hammer from the collection of a French entrepreneur. We reveal the prices.
Entrepreneur Richard Romagny has collected over 100 cars and two-wheelers. Now he wants to downsize his collection; he only wants to keep a remainder. Over 100 cars and motorcycles from the collection of the former Paris-Dakar entrant went under the hammer in an online auction at Artcurial until November 22nd. With one exception, all vehicles were sold. Some of them significantly exceeded their estimate. For example, a BMW Z3 2.8 Coupé that Romagny bought new in 1998: the highest bid was 32,000 euros. 15,000 euros had been expected.
Classic cars from French brands
Romagny had collected classic automobiles, mopeds and motorcycles that he liked when he was young. Most of the cars are from French manufacturers, but there are also a few Mercedes. Romagny's Landcruiser, with which he twice drove the Paris-Dakar Rally, is also sold. The years of construction range from the 1960s to the 1990s. A car transporter based on a 2013 Renault Master and a rather mundane 2001 Renault Mégane are the exceptions. But the Renault Master in particular clearly exceeded its estimate and brought 38,400 euros instead of the targeted 12,000 to 18,000 euros. A R4 GTL from 1988 almost tripled its estimated value of 8,000 to 12,000 euros and achieved a sales price of 28,800 euros.
According to Artcurial, Romagny chose mainly first or second-hand models, with few kilometers and in very good original condition. Because the entrepreneur describes hydropneumatics as "the best French technology" and likes the brand, a focus of his collection is on Citroën DS and CX. Small packs of Peugeot 205 and Renault 5 show that Romagny was by no means subscribed to the top models - of which there were also a few up for auction in the form of Peugeot 605 and Renault 30. A Citroën Xantia V6 Phase 2 stood out in terms of price, which achieved a sales price of 31,200 euros instead of the estimated 12,000 to 18,000 euros.
Conclusion
A car collection in which a VW Beetle is an exotic vehicle among 110 other vehicles and which ranges from the Voisin C3 to the BMW Z3 Coupé should be unique in the world. The collection of the entrepreneur and Paris-Dakar participant Romagny is definitely refreshingly different.
